Right from a tender age, I joined conservation through membership of {WCK} wildlife clubs of Kenya. The Komba magazine, Swara of { EAWLS} East African Wildlife Society helped to understand and envy nature. Combined with Scouting, I had an opportunity to go camping in various forests, game reserves, and national parks. Upon doing KCSE, I joined a tour firm dealing with mountain climbing. I enrolled in Kenair for a diploma in tourism. Through the years, I have worked in several tour companies in different capacities to attain a high level of experience in the planning and execution of tours. Between 1989 to 1993 at Mountain rock as a trail guide. Between 1994 and 1996 with Alpine expeditions as a mountain guide. Between 1996 to 1998 with Keyline adventures as a field guide. In 1998, I joined Kibo slopes safaris which had departments such as Mountain, Camping, and luxury safaris, Go ballooning for hot air balloon in {Soysambu ranch}, Nakuru and Shuttle services plying Nairobi-Arusha-Moshi.

Review of my 5-day tours with Toshi M

Toshi is a decent guy. I am grateful for his additional help to me in finding the 2 meeting places that I signed up with other companies in Osaka. He often offered to take pictures at the sightseeing spots for me since I am traveling solo. Some aspects Toshi /GOWITHGUIDE can do better: 1. The company needs to have a more rigid screening process. The picture Toshi put on the website looks like a middle-aged man, but he maybe a lot older than that. I was surprised to see him on Sept 12. He came with a cane because he injured his angel. At some major sites, he did not go with me to the actual spots. Sometimes I got lost due to our walking speed/distractions, and it took more time for us to find each other. GOWITHGUIDE should have a policy asking for doctor’s certificate that the person is physically fit to do the walking and climbing in hot and cold days. 2. He was not very knowledgeable on the areas that he advertised. Lots of time he needed to stop to ask for directions. The first day he came to meet me at 11:01 since he could not find my hotel! We were supposed to meet at 9:30 am. He also told me that his wife has Parkinson’s disease he has to help her for her morning routines. With high temperature everyday I wish we could start tours earlier, but I didn’t feel comfortable to ask him. The time spent on finding directions was calculated into my 7-hour schedule. 3. Totally, I paid him/GOWITHGUIDE more than $1000 (paying to the company upfront and paying him the transportation and lunch daily directly) Here the company should make it clear about transportation and lunch policy. Overall, I don’t feel my money was well-spent. He did accomplish hotel meeting and sending-me-back job. The sightseeing part did not meet my expectations. I thought it was too late to change a guide when I met him the first day. So I worked with him till the end. Although overall he is a decent guy, he lacked the ability to do a better job as a tour guide. I can provide a longer review.
