Todaiji temple

Todaiji (東大寺, Tōdaiji, "Great Eastern Temple") is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant temples and a landmark of Nara. The temple was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan and grew so powerful that the capital was moved away from Nara in 784 in order to lower the temple's influence on government affairs.

12:00 PM

Nara park

Nara Park (奈良公園, Nara Kōen) is a large park in central Nara. Established in 1880, it is the location of many of Nara's main attractions including Todaiji, Kasuga Taisha, Kofukuji and the Nara National Museum. It is also home to hundreds of freely roaming deer.

01:00 PM

Kasugataisha shrine

Kasuga Taisha (春日大社) is Nara's most celebrated shrine. It was established at the same time as the capital and is dedicated to the deity responsible for the protection of the city. Kasuga Taisha was also the tutelary shrine of the Fujiwara, Japan's most powerful family clan during most of the Nara and Heian Periods. Like the Ise Shrines, Kasuga Taisha had been periodically rebuilt every 20 years for many centuries. In the case of Kasuga Taisha, however, the custom was discontinued at the end of the Edo Period.

03:00 PM

Kofukuji temple

Kofukuji (興福寺, Kōfukuji) used to be the family temple of the Fujiwara, the most powerful aristocratic clan during much of the Nara and Heian Periods. The temple was established in Nara at the same time as the capital in 710. At the height of Fujiwara power, the temple consisted of over 150 buildings.

Kyoto tour

We were very limited with our stay in Kyoto but our guide Tad made sure that we saw the main highlights of Kyoto. Tad would have to be one of the kindest and most thoughtful guides we have experienced. Tad has an excellent knowledge of local history, very patient and extremely flexible, he is also very passionate about Kyoto and transmits this passion very well. His great command of the English language together with his professionalism and great sense of humour made our Kyoto stopover the highlight of our Japan experience. I highly recommend Tad as an exceptional tour guide.

Incredible tour with Tad.

We booked the tour with Tad a month ago and he’s very responsive to all of our questions before the tour. He took us through many narrow streets in Dotonbori area and shared the culture and history to us, we learned so much from Tad. We also visited three different local eateries, and they were amazing. Each one gave us a different taste and experience. We had such a wonderful time. Tad’s English was incredible. He’s very friendly and answered all the questions we had. Thank you very much for a wonderful tour, and gave us an unforgettable memory. We highly recommend this tour with Tad!!!

Nara & Osaka 1-day Tour

Nara
8 hours

Visit Nara and Osaka must-see sites in one day including Nara "deer" park, Great Buddha at Todaiji Temple, Osaka Castle, and Dotonbori for the evening. Tour itinerary is flexible so you can focus on one of the two areas. Good for those who have a limited time and start to feel you've seen too many shrines and temples in Kyoto.
